Footsteps of Ernie Pyle

Watch the tide come rushing in at Mont-Saint-Michel

In honor of IU’s 200th anniversary, this trip is tailor-made to provide an educationally enriching experience led by an IU expert. The itinerary also includes a special bicentennial celebration.

Learn about Pulitzer Prize-winning war correspondent and IU alumnus, Ernie Pyle, on this journey from London to Paris hosted by former broadcast journalist Mike Conway.

Three days in the capital of England will give you ample time to see the sights, including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace. Take advantage of guided tours of St. Bride’s Church and the Imperial War Museum. Wrap up your time in London with a theater production at Shakespeare’s Globe and a walking tour of the Inns of Court.

Then it’s on to Caen via ferry across the English Channel. Highlights of this stop include the Peace Memorial, Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery, and Mont-Saint-Michel—a mainland commune turned island by the tide.

Continue on to Paris for the final leg of the trip. Once in the “City of Lights,” you’ll tour the Somme battlefields, Versailles, and the Louvre. Other must-sees include the Eiffel Tower, as well as Les Invalides, a complex of buildings containing many museums and monuments.
