We are here to help. CareerNorth—which was co-founded by Mike Schmeckebier, BS’00, MS’05, a career coach and lecturer at the IU Kelley School of Business—offers 12 free, self-guided modules.

These modules can be accessed anywhere, anytime and cover topics including résumé and cover letter best practices, brand-building, job-search tactics, interview prep, and more.

Module 1: Your Journey Begins

In this course, you’ll learn how to carve out a career path that supports your personal happiness and success. From this course, you will move into more courses that take a deep dive into specific components needed to land your next opportunity.

Module 2: New Job or New Career?

In this course, you’ll learn how being a better teammate and employee can help you foster better working relationships with your coworkers and boss.

Module 3: Your Personal Brand

Throughout this course, we will give some thought to your personal experiences, skills, and interests and how they connect to your personal brand.

Module 4: Résumé and Cover Letter

When applying for jobs, the two most important professional materials you need are a résumé and a cover letter. In this course, you’ll learn how to incorporate your brand (i.e., your skills, professional interests, & experience) into both documents.

Module 5: Building Your Network

In this course, you get a crash course in networking. We teach you how to make LinkedIn connection requests and conduct effective informational interviews.

Module 6: Interview Preparation

This course provides you with everything you need to fully prepare yourself for the interview. We guide you through the research process, teach you proper interview techniques, and provide practice interview questions.

Module 7: Interview Practice

Now that you’ve prepared, it is time to put your preparation into action. This course is about practicing your answers and how you deliver them.

Module 8: Finding the Right Company

In this course, we will guide you through a proven process of finding the right companies or organizations for you to target in your job search.

Module 9: Getting the Job

Utilize comprehensive strategies, including leveraging existing contacts, alumni networks, LinkedIn connections, and job board alerts, to secure the ideal career opportunity tailored to your skills and aspirations.

Module 10: Second Interview

In this course, we go over the second-round interview—tips for nailing it, questions for you to ask, standard questions you’ll likely get asked, and what to do if it’s over lunch or dinner, and beyond.

Module 11: Negotiating the Job Offer

By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about job offers and negotiate effectively to secure fair compensation and benefits.

Module 12: Go Further

In true career development fashion, learning never stops. In this course, we leave you with a few extra lessons we think you will find useful as your journey continues.
