Dear Indiana University System Graduate,
I am reaching out to you today because I am running for Indiana University trustee 2024 and I am humbly asking for your vote June 1 – June 28!!!
Otherwise known as Lia, Lorann, and Luke Lombardini’s mom, I realize a great education is tantamount to living a better life and fostering a greater world, which was the biggest reason our family has chosen superb school systems receiving many degrees from Indiana University.
I am a 1984 Academic All State graduate from Whiting, Indiana. I attended Montana State on a basketball scholarship earning both biology and communications degrees. I received an All American nod while be named the college’s Outstanding Senior in a class of 2500. In 1991, I was chosen from our District as the Rotary Scholar to Australia where I studied part of my Master’s Degree. I attained a Master in Public Affairs from Indiana University Northwest while working for Johnson & Johnson as a Wellness manager at Ford. I then took a PR job with Community Heathcare System in 2004. Finally, moved into my consulting business Vision Quest in 2013 while raising three children.
Markedly, a unique delight of mine was teaching and volunteer coaching close to 10,000 student athletes at IUN and throughout NWI for the past 25 years! I spent most of that time in the HPER Department and recently an instructor in cure leading mostly my Connections program that encourages a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Helping students advance their opportunities while supporting, recruiting, and keeping in touch with alumni has been very gratifying. I am also a mother of two IU Kelley School of Business students, a donor to the IUN Art exhibits, promoter of events at IU, past member of the IUN Wellness team, and staunch supporter of IU athletics.
Other points of noting are…I attended/supported a winning case at the US Supreme Court in 2023-Talevski vs HHC, spoke at the Fest of the Diaspora 2022, and placed sixth in Shape Magazine’s National Fitness Search. I now have a Show-Good Day NWI that promotes a plethora of great about our Region/World because we need and deserve that. And am happy to state that my children received scholarships from the Dye Foundation (Jim, a past Trustee), Lawyer Tom Dakich marked my petition, and Sam Alford signed my Basketball All State and Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame awards. I am also certified in Best Practices by the T3 Institute, was a finalist for the Most Influential Woman in Northwest Indiana, and am helping build health and safety into the National Agenda.
My goal for the students as a trustee would be to support a safe environment rich with learning, culture, and kindness. One that has vitality along with responsibility. A student that is resilient and has purpose. Per the Nature of Trusteeship, being a Trustee has inherent influence…power to set, prescribe, determine, appoint, and invest. No light task, but necessary to move into the future. The good news is I am familiar, so the learning curve is flattened since I am already involved in many Indiana University/area activities and those requirements are quite doable. What I really would like to establish is a common sense approach to daily issues that will provide IU, pedagogy, and our community as a whole, a solid advocate for programs, resolutions, and notable transactions of the university. My votes will be cast with research and reflection to represent the best possible decision for the students of Indiana University at all of the nine campuses. This will ensure that with a stellar educational experience, they will do great things, drawing on the foundational principles taught throughout the IU System that I have been involved with for a quarter century!
There are nine total Trustees, with six appointed by the Governor and three elected by the Alumni. We have not always had varied representation. It is imperative that we have someone on the Board from every area, each gender, and socio economic level so that we may provide balanced insight and have a voice in decisions.
I believe that my unique blend of education, experience, and energy would be of great value to IU, the students, and learning in general. The hope is that you vote for Becky Mateja Lombardini as your Indiana University trustee June 1 – June 30. Please be sure your email is current with the Alumni Office, or request a mail ballot, or contact me for the link.
Thank you for your time, consideration and all you do. If you have any questions, please contact me. Honorably, Becky
